Recent polls, conducted in New Jersey State, showed that a number of citizens were supporting the online sports betting regulation. In spite of the support, the state is showing cautiousness in giving a green light to this industry.
Fairleigh Dickinson University conducted the study and pointed out that a major portion of the people in the state were in favor of legalization of online sports betting.
Earlier in 2012, New Jersey legislators adopted a legalization, which lifts the existing ban on internet sports betting. It will work against the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), according to which sports betting is banned in the country.
New Jersey has not been able to launch an internet sports betting sites with real money, even though the state has adopted the legalization, for the restrictive measures of PASPA. The situation has worsened with different sports organization filing litigation against New Jersey and its new law.
As per the poll, 45 percent of the subjects felt that the state should defy PASPA ruling. They wanted that the real money internet sports betting should be implemented to the earliest. Another 38 percent felt that till the sports betting ban is completely lifted by the Federal Lawmakers, the state government should play a waiting game.
The poll has indicated that Republican respondents are more in favor of the decision to go ahead with legalization and implementation of online sports betting than the Democrats. 52 percent of people, claiming to support the Republicans, wished that internet sports betting should be launched to the earliest.
